RATIONALE
• The NDA foresees imminent problem in procuring future imported dairy animals if no corrective actions are taken; • Cost of imported dairy crossed animals is becoming prohibitive now pegged at P90,000 – P100,000/head; • Calves born locally are somehow mishandled and usually their growth are not closely monitored; • Production performance of local born dairy crosses is comparable with the imported ones; • Increasing number of enthusiasts from private and local government units seeking dairy animals for their agri-business and rural economic enhancement activities; and, • Progressive private dairy farms express their cooperation to partner with the government through NDA to set up and operate a dairy breeder farm.
OBJECTIVES
• To address the imminent issues on availability, affordability and quality of dairy animals in the country; • To set up and operate Multiplier Farms in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao; • To encourage/enjoin private-public sector partnership in dairy breeding and calf rearing farm operations; and, • To actively promote the production and distribution of local born dairy animals and thus increase the dairy base stocks in the country.
